Where We Work

Assumption Volunteers serve in some of the 34 countries of the world where the Assumption Sisters are present and in projects connected with them.

This year we are sending to:

Our main partner is AMA – Associate Missionaries of the Assumption – which has run a volunteer programme for 25 years and can place recent graduates and teachers alongside Filipino volunteers in educational and social projects.

The Sisters run a secondary school in Vilnius, thirty percent of the pupils having physical or learning disabilities. Languages are important subjects and a volunteer would assist the English teachers and also help with games, clubs and trips.

A secondary school in Rwaza with an emphasis on sciences and ecology needs volunteers to assist the English teachers and encourage the students in IT, internet use, journalism and world events.

Teaching English and other subjects (sports, IT, geography etc) in a primary school for ages 4 to 13 in rural Kerala.

Kids Kabin (set up originally by the Assumption Sisters) in Walker, East Newcastle, for community development through creative arts for children. Also satellite projects and street sessions and trips.

The Good Neighbour Project in West Newcastle  - working for the regeneration of a local community in co-operation with the local churches. Activities with toddlers to pensioners and everyone in between.
